Not all chicken fingers and chicken nuggets are the same. Does your picky eater devour the friend chicken bites from one fast food restaurant only to turn up his nose at the same thing at another restaurant? This fried chicken nugget recipe will wow even the pickiest eater and won’t make a mess of your kitchen either!
Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast (1 per person)
1/4 Cup Milk
1/4 Teaspoon White Pepper
1 Teaspoon Lowry’s Seasoned Salt
1/2 Teaspoon Adolph’s Unseasoned Tenderizer
1 1/2 Cup Flour (All Purpose or Self Rising)
2 Gallon Zip Top Storage Bag
Oil for Frying
Adolph’s Unseasoned Tenderizer
This has no MSG and uses Bromelian for the tenderizing action. Bromelian is an enzyme found in pineapple and has been used for generations to treat stomach upset. Even though it is unseasoned, the Bromelian does add some flavor to the chicken.
To start, go ahead and start warming your oil. It should be close to the required 375 degrees by the time you finish the rest of the prep, depending on your fryer of course.
Open the 2 gallon storage bag and fold the top down to the outside. This will keep you from accidentally getting raw chicken on the outside of the bag and help the bag stand up for you. Add the milk and seasonings (NOT the flour) to the bag and mix carefully. Set the bag to the side where it won’t fall over.
To prep the chicken, cut it into bite size chunks. As you cut the chicken, add it to the bag with the milk mixture. Then close the bag and shake it carefully to coat the chicken with the milk mixture.
Coating the Chicken
Open the bag and pour in 1 cup of the flour. Close the bag and shake again (carefully) to coat the chicken. It will basically be a gooey mess at this stage. The goal is to soak up all the milk and get as much chicken surface coated with flour as possible. Make sure the chicken isn’t completely stuck together. Once that is done, open the bag again and add the last 1/2 cup of flour. Close the bag and shake again. Make sure all the nuggets separate well and you should have nicely coated chicken pieces.
Once the oil has reached 375 degrees, carefully add the nuggets to the oil. Fry for 6 to 8 minutes (depending on how heavily you load the oil). Once done, drain on paper towels. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce.
